Horace Donates Championship Shoes
Former NBA great Horace Grant is pairing up with St. Patrick’s Elementary School in Arroyo Grande and selling off some one-of-a-kind items.
The 17 year NBA veteran is auctioning off a rare collection of autographed sneakers from his teammates on the 1991 NBA Champion Chicago Bulls. Horace, Scottie Pippen and Michael Jordan teamed up to help capture the first of three-straight NBA titles that year and tipped off the Bulls’ dynasty.
Grant, Pippen, Jordan along with John Paxson, Bill Cartwright and BJ Armstrong signed sneakers for the auction. NBA Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen also provided an autographed jersey.
Horace has two girls at St. Pat’s and a newborn, who is a future student. Grant says the auction is a chance to use his past to help the future of his kids and others in the area.
“This community and this school have so to speak adopted me as one of their own and it’s a way to give something back,” said Grant. “I can’t think of a better school than Saint Pat’s to offer these shoes for a great cause.”
The shoes will be sold together as part of St. Pat’s 49th annual fundraiser barbeque this Sunday. An auction for the shoes will open at 5pm PDT Thursday night on EBAY. The auction closes and the winner will be announced at 5 pm on Sunday at the barbeque. The Pippen jersey will be part of the live auction scheduled to start at 2 pm on Sunday. Horace hopes to call teammates from the 2001 Los Angeles Lakers NBA championship team for next year’s fundraiser.
